About the event

Go forth into the busy world and love it. Interest yourself in its life, mingle kindly with its joys and sorrows.

Go Forth! is the fourth event in the Common Ground Winter Trail Series. Each year we'll create a new event that sparks a sense of adventure and offers participants an opportunity to mingle kindly with the world's joys and sorrows. This year we present "Go Forth! Frozen Fingers," a celebration of everyone's favorite winter pastimes: running, horseshoes, and chili.

Event Description

  • Check-in will open at 10:30 AM @ Bushman Cabin in Henrietta Veterans Memorial Park

  • The main event will start at 11:00 AM and will last for two hours.

  • The goal of the event is to get as many points as possible. Points are earned by successful horseshoe throws:

    • 3 points for ringer

    • 2 points for leaner

    • 1 point if the shoe comes to rest within a shoe-width of the stake

    • 0 points for anything else

  • One (1) horseshoe throw is earned for each completed lap of the 0.5 mile course.

  • Bonus horseshoe throws can be earned throughout the event for many reasons, in particular:

    • Registering for the full Common Ground Winter Trail Series

    • Entering the chili cook-off

    • Dressing in an elaborate and thematic costume

    • Bribery

    • Quality heckling of fellow participants

  • Horseshoe throwing can occur at any time between when the throw is earned and the end of the two hours (1:00 PM). It is up to the participant to optimize when to throw given wait time to throw, fatigue, and revealing skills to competitors.

  • Throwers will be limited to up to three horseshoes per session, after which the thrower will be required to collect their shoes. If the thrower would like to continue to throw, they need to re-join the thrower line in an orderly fashion.

  • Throughout the event there will be several Random Occurrences. The Occurrence will be announced by a loud sound, after which the next person to finish a lap will be awarded one of our power-ups. The nature of the power-ups will remain obscured until they are earned, but they are all designed to elevate any participant from an "also-ran" to a "contender".

  • At the conclusion of the event, all participants are invited into the heated lodge for chili tasting and general merriment.
